#Springsteen Songs: 4th Of July, Asbury Park (Sandy)

Dat nummers met een accordeon, bespeeld door Danny Federici, mooi kunnen zijn bewijst ‘Sandy’ wel. Het roept dat fijne zwoele zomerse sfeertje op. Het nummer speelt zich af in Asbury Park om precies te zijn op de boardwalk, het strand, de arcade hal, de meisjes en zelfs Madam Marie een waarzegster die in 2008 overleed. De verteller heeft genoeg van het leven op de boardwalk en probeert zijn meisje mee te krijgen.
De verteller lijkt te willen ontsnappen aan zijn verleden van mislukte relaties. Het lijkt er op dat Sandy dat ook in ziet. Dat hij altijd problemen blijft houden met zijn relaties ook al leeft hij ergens anders. Dus gaat ze niet mee. Een van de visueel mooiste stukjes van het nummer is het vuurwerk ‘hailing over Little Eden’. Je ziet het vuurwerk voor je.
Het nummer staat op het meesterwerkje The Wild, The Innocent & The E Street Shuffle uit 1973. In 1975 werd het nummer opgenomen door The Hollies die er een hit mee hadden. De hoogste notering van het nummer was de 8ste plaats in de Top 40 van 1975.
