In de jaren 80 richten Waylon Jennings, Johnny Cash, Willie Nelson en Kris Kristofferson The Highwaymen op, een supergroep die wat mij betreft moeilijk te overtreffen is. Tot dit jaar. Nu zijn er The Highwomen, een mooie verwijzing naar de supergroep van weleer. Bestaande uit Amanda Shires, Brandi Carlile, Natalie Hemby en Marren Morris. Amanda Shires kwam met het idee, producer Dave Cobb raadde haar aan om Brandi Carlile bij het project te betrekken, daarna volgde Marren Morris en songwriter Natalie Hemby maakte het kwartet compleet.

The reason why we’re here though — and part of the reason why the Highwomen even exist — is because of what country radio thinks constitutes “a hit.” More often than not, it’s a song sung by a man. “Redesigning Women” has all the bones of a what could dominate the airwaves if gender bias weren’t so ingrained in the foundation, and that’s the point: the Highwomen’s LP isn’t a kiss-off to Music Row, meant to rattle and shake anything but the doors themselves open. Rather, it’s an invitation to turn a corner on inclusivity.
Op 6 september verschijnt de plaat! Ik kijk er alvast naar uit!
