De 25 van 2018: 23. Paul McCartney – Egypt Station

Het afgelopen jaar 2018, was een soort van Beatles revival voor mij. Allereerst met een bezoek aan het theaterconcert van The Analogues die ‘The White Album’ intergraal speelden, gevolgd door de boxset van The Beatles van hetzelfde album en als afsluiter het nieuwe album van Paul McCartney. Sir Paul McCartney inmiddels 76 jaar levert met ‘Egypt Station’ een veelzijdige plaat af. Niet overal even goed want een nummer als ‘Fuh You’ tja dat heeft McCartney helemaal niet nodig. Het album zit vol met echte McCartney liedjes zoals ‘Come On To Me’ en ‘Who Cares’. Maar ook maatschappij kritische nummers zoals ‘Despite Repeated Warnings’ over de ontkenners van de klimaatverandering met in het bijzonder de Amerikaanse President Donald Trump.

But he laughs in our faces (What can we do? / But they have their proudest moments)
Says that we are mistaken (Right before they fall)
So we gather around him (What can we do? / Red sky in the morning)
Now the ropes that have bound him (What can we do? / Doesn’t ever seem to faze him)
Prove that he should have listened (What can we do? / But a sailor’s warning signal) (Should concern us all)
